Ealing residents out of pocket as Ealing Council late with making payment for street parties in honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Ealing residents organising street parties in honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee have raised concerns that they are now out of pocket by as much as £200 as Ealing Council has yet to pay them back for expenses incurred in putting on a local party.

More than 150 street parties are due to take place over the weekend which are supported by up to £200 by Ealing Council which residents were told they would be reimbursed for following an approved application to the council to host a party.

But many residents have yet to be reimbursed despite being told they would before the end of May.

Local comedienne  Shaparak Khorsandi turned to twitter to raise awareness that the organiser of her street party is out of pocket despite messages sent to the council. She wrote: “Hey Ealing Council, please answer Sophie at number 50’s messages! She is a pillar of our community, bad form to mess her about.”

Other residents across Ealing also tweeted they have been let down by the council by not being reimbursed when they were promised they would be before the Platinum Jubilee.

In a direct tweet to Ealing Council leader Peter Mason and local councillor Binda Rai, Jane Cooper expressed concern that payments have not yet arrived despite being told they would be sent week commencing May 20. Jane said: “Can you help re Jubilee Street party funding which has been granted but not received!! No info from Events team – what have you done with the money? Was supposed to be sent w/c 20 May – it’s now 1st June and the Jubilee Weekend is here!!”

Since February, Councillor Mason has been encouraging residents to hold a street party and apply for funding. He said: “I hope residents take advantage of the chance to come together with their neighbours and commemorate this historic milestone in our shared history of marking 70 years of service by Her Majesty The Queen.”

Ealing.News contacted the Ealing Council press office by email to ask when would residents be reimbursed for their expenses in organising a street party but we have not yet heard back from the press office.
