Ealing LibDems challenge Ealing Council over controversial plans to remove protection of Metropolitan Open Land in Grove Farm and across the borough

Ealing Liberal Democrats are urging residents across Ealing to sign a petition to enable a town hall debate about controversial plans from Labour-run Ealing Council to build on Metropolitan Open Land (MOL). The opposition party is also urging residents to attend a council public meeting on 21 September 2023 where plans will be discussed.

Ealing Council is planning to remove protections of MOLs on Grove Farm in Greenford despite criticism from the Mayor of London as well as concerned locals.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Jon Ball, Opposition Spokesperson on Planning, Licensing and Housing said: “It is terrible hypocrisy for a Labour administration elected on a manifesto promising to create new parks and open spaces is now instead removing the protection our existing parks and open spaces have from being dug up for building schemes.”

Councillor Ball added that residents can also give their feedback on the proposals prior to the meeting next month.

He said: “I urge you to feedback to Ealing your rejection of their reduced protection for green spaces. Development, including much-needed genuinely affordable housing, must be on brownfield sites.”
