Accountancy training on the up at West London College

West London College(WLC) has reported a doubling of student enrolment for its accounting courses which started last month.

More than 200 students aged 16-18 and including adults have taken up its Accounting Academy accountancy course which offers them a qualification for work or to further study.

New accounting student Luis Rotherham explained why he took up the course which takes place at WLC’s  Ealing Green College campus: “I like maths. I was good at maths at school and this helps me in my course at WLC. Accounting is an international skill and for the future I plan to travel everywhere and work there to support myself as an accountant.”

Fellow student Matteo Taffurelli added: “I am good with numbers but I also want to go and live with my family in the Philippines. Accounting will help me to move back and forth between there and the UK and to support myself financially.”

Teacher Derek Cleminshaw said of the increased appeal of doing accountancy: “Students are realising that an accounting qualification opens many doors to so many rewarding careers in finance without incurring the financial burden of huge student debt by going to university.”
