Ealing joins as one on Remembrance Sunday to commemorate those who fought and fell fighting for freedom

As the nation came together on Remembrance Sunday on 12 November 2023, residents , clergy, MPs, councillors and the armed forces across the borough commemorated and showed their respect to those who fought for the country in war and those who died in their fight for freedom.

Sunday saw parades and services to honour Remembrance Day in Greenford, Southall and Ealing with MPs, councillors and leaders from Ealing Labour, Ealing Liberal Democrats and Ealing Conservative political parties attending the various events.

In Ealing town itself, a service at Ealing Green War Memorial which is located in front of Pitzhanger Manor by Walpole Park took place.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of the Opposition on Ealing Council told EALING.NEWS of the importance of remembering. “To me Sunday is a chance for people around Ealing to remind ourselves about the tragedy of war and the huge numbers of people, both soldiers and civilians, who died. But also about the need for us to remember the mistakes of the past so we can hopefully have a more peaceful time in the future.”

“When I lay the Wreath on behalf of the Liberal Democrat Group it is a time to reflect and see what I can do to reduce tensions that may exist in my community.

“I hope many others attend so we can all reflect together.”

In Greenford, Ealing North MP James Murray posted on X: “It was an honour to lay a wreath at the Greenford War Memorial today as we came together to honour and remember all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country.”

While Ealing Southall MP Virendra Sharma shared his thoughts on X: “On #RemembranceSunday, we pay tribute to those who gave their lives to protect our country. May we never forget the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, veterans and their families in the name of our security and democracy. #LestWeForget.”
