With National Tree Week happening this week and running until 3 December 2023, Berkeley’s The Green Quarter in Southall is welcoming residents across Ealing to take part in a number of activities being hosted.
On the site in Parkside Yards is a tree nursery in partnership with London Wildlife Trust, which is home to 600 air-potted trees. A nature trail allows visitors to explore and learn about all seven different types of tree that are present including: silver birch, wild cherry, black alder, lime, hornbeam, crab apple and London plane.
The developer says the tree nursery “will help boost the biodiversity, air quality and sustainability of the local area.” When the trees mature they will be planted across Berkeley’s London sites as well as at The Green Quarter.
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Jags Sanghera, head of community engagement, The Green Quarter said: “National Tree Week gives everyone a chance to celebrate nature and reflect on all the ways it enriches our lives. At The Green Quarter, we’re set on creating a place filled with trees, plants and green space for all to enjoy all year round and are proud of how much we have achieved so far.
“Our tree nursery is a key part of this, boasting 600 air-potted plants from seven different species. The integrated nature trail that runs through this allows residents and locals alike to see and learn about the trees, giving them a greater appreciation for and understanding of the nature around them. To mark the festive season, we will be illuminating trees throughout The Green Quarter to create a light trail, so we can celebrate them at night as well as in the day.”
Mr Sanghera added: “Once matured, the trees in our nursery will be planted around The Green Quarter and other Berkeley developments, creating habitats for wildlife and helping to foster a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come. Our trees are a part of our community and we will continue to do our part at Berkeley to grow both together.”
On 30 November 2023 at Parkside Yards, The Green Quarter will be hosting its annual Christmas event which from 5pm-8pm will feature a light trail through the tree nursery. There will also be live music and Santa making an appearance complete with his reindeer.
