University of West London ranked highly for sustainability and ethics

Ealing’s University of West London  (UWL) has been ranked as number 13 of all 151 UK universities and number 4 of all London universities for its sustainability and ethics in the People & Planet University League.

The last year has seen UWL move up four places from its previous UK ranking of 17 in the report compiled by student campaigning group for social and environmental justice, People & Planet.

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Jack Ruane, University League manager at People & Planet said: “The University of West London have been a real success story over recent years. This is down to many bold actions on climate justice, such as committing to divest from fossil fuels in November.”

Claire Willitts, director of property services at UWL said: “We are proud to have been ranked first class again and to be recognised as one of the most sustainable universities in London. UWL is making conscious decisions to progress initiatives across the business that have a direct impact on our sustainability, and we stand by our commitments to continually improve.”

Dr Suresh Gamlath, pro vice-chancellor (Business Development) of UWL added: “UWL is committed to taking action on climate change while addressing critical economic and social issues. The University’s investment policy is guided by ethical values and the need to manage environmental, social and governance risks.”

He added: “We are committed to reinvesting in sustainability projects in our community and on campus. It is in the interest of our students and people everywhere that we work together towards a more sustainable future for ourselves and for future generations yet to come.”
