Three Metropolitan Police officers have bravely rescued a child waist deep in the River Brent in Hanwell.
The Ealing officers from Greenford and Northolt responded to a 999 call at 3pm on Saturday (30 March 2024) to reports of a young boy stranded waist deep in the river near to Studland Road and High Lane in Hanwell. The child wasn’t responding to either concerned members of the public or the officers who had arrived.
Police sergeant Yusuf Hassaniyeh then entered the water to rescue the nine-year-old and with community support officer James Tupman and constable Lee Dahir, the boy was safety taken to a waiting ambulance where paramedics checked the youngster who was later reunited with family members and has not suffered any ill-effects.
Sergeant Hassaniyeh said: “When the call was circulated, there was no hesitation. We knew that every second counted, and we were determined to reach the child before it was too late.”
Acting chief inspector Jonathon Hubbard praised the local officers for their courage. He said: “Their bravery exemplifies the finest qualities of the police service,” he remarked. “We are immensely proud of their actions, which may well have saved a child’s life.”
