At yesterday’s (21 May 2024) full council meeting Councillor Yvonne Johnson has been elected Mayor of Ealing 2024/25 and takes over from 2023/24 Mayor of Ealing Councillor Hitesh Tailor.
As with all mayors, Councillor Johnson will take part in civic ceremonial duties across the borough including attending the annual Remembrance Day service as well as meeting local groups and people. Councillor Johnson will chair full council meetings.
Councillor Jonhson has also announced two charities she will hold events to raise money for – Acton Homeless Concern of which she is a founder member and CAPE which provides mental health services for Ealing residents.
In her role, she will also be assisted by Councillor Anthony Kelly who was appointed deputy mayor.
Councillor Johnson, who is a councillor for South Acton ward, was first elected in 1986 and previously worked as a secondary school history teacher.
The new mayor will be supported by her husband Brian and also by her sister Rosemary.
Councillor Johnson said: “I am very excited and honoured to be Mayor of Ealing for the coming year, it’s a very different role to anything I’ve done before. I’m looking forward to meeting people and groups that I have not yet had the chance to meet and go to parts of the borough I don’t often visit. I’m very proud of our borough and what we have achieved so far, it’s an honour to represent it.”
