Over the weekend, Alastair Mitton, the LibDems prospective parliamentary candidate for Ealing Central and Acton met with Ealing Safer Neighbourhood police and says the closure of local police stations in the capital is impacting their performance and community safety.
Mr Mitton says he was informed by local police that due to the time it takes to travel to and from police stations it can take up to a whole shift to arrest, process and deal with the paperwork for a single suspect.
With the closure of West London police stations including Ealing and Chiswick, suspects are often being transported to police stations further away in Colindale and Heathrow. As an example, according to Ealing police, it takes two and a half fours to do the round trip from Ealing to Colindale during peak hours.
The LibDems say not enough has been done by Labour’s Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
Mr Mitton said: “Liberal Democrats believe it is clear that there is a direct correlation between Labour’s police station closures and fewer police on our streets. Liberal Democrats have pledged to restore proper community policing and put bobbies back on the beat.”
He added: “Liberal Democrats will always put your safety as our priority.”
