Ealing resident and ex BBC technology correspondent-turned author and owner of rescue dog Sophie From Romania, Rory Cellan-Jones has been awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to journalism.
Mr Cellan-Jones, author of Ruskin Park: Sylvia, Me and The BBC, tells the story of the love affair between his parents, both BBC employees – which he only found out about after his mother’s death – and how it was affected by the forces of post war respectability and prejudice. It also shines a light on Mr Cellan-Jones own isolated childhood, as he and his brother were raised single-handedly by a mother who was also working full-time.
His next book, Sophie from Romania: A Year of Hope and Love with a Rescue Dog is out October 2024.
