Hanwell Town FC manager Chris Moore admits opening day of new season will be “a tough start”.
In the new Southern League Premier Division South fixtures, released on Friday (19 July 2024), Hanwell Town have been given an opening day journey down the M3 to League newcomers, Wimborne Town, to start their 2024-25 season.
They soon return to the Powerday Stadium with tricky fixtures against Bracknell Town and then Swindon Supermarine in the following week.
The 24-25 season will be The Geordies’ third season in the South Division of the Southern League Premier, and manager Chris Moore will be hoping that there’s no final day relegation worries, as happened at the end of last season.
On seeing the fixtures on Friday, he said: “It’s a tough start away to a newly promoted side, who will be riding the crest of a wave from last season, but there’s no easy games and we’re looking forward to getting the season started.”
The busy Christmas period sees Hanwell play the return fixture at Bracknell on December 21st, before facing Chertsey Town at home on Boxing Day, and then playing return at Swindon Supermarine on December 28th. The festive season is completed away at Marlow on New Year’s Day.
On Easter Monday, the Geordies travel to face Chertsey, after hosting Taunton Town on the previous Saturday. They complete the season with a potentially interesting fixture at home to Plymouth Parkway, hoping that they have secured their place in the division for a 4th season by this time.
Hanwell are now the easternmost team within the division and so will be facing some long journeys west into Devon, Somerset and South Wales this winter, but these journeys will be balanced by the more local games at Walton & Hersham, Marlow and Chertsey, the venue for the Geordies playoff win in 2022, which saw them promoted to the Southern League.
