Ealing Hospital has been recognised for the quality of its endoscopy services by gaining Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation for clinical excellence.
The hospital, part of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, currently carries out more than 4,800 endoscopy procedures a year and is now ranked as one of the top-performing endoscopy units in the UK.
The JAG accreditation comes after two previous applications didn’t grant it the status from the Royal College of Physicians.
The service is run under the auspices of Dr Sohail Shariq and service manager Shatal Martin.
Dr Charlotte Bearcroft, an endoscopist at Ealing said: “We’re thrilled to have this external validation from our professional body. It means a lot to us and reassures patients that they have access to first class service on their doorstep.”
Dr Bearcroft added: “The accreditation process spanned nearly two years, during which the endoscopy unit had to meet a range of criteria, including patient experience, clinical effectiveness, training and leadership.”
According to the hospital, the endoscopy department is currently focused on reaching its pre-pandemic number of procedures which previously averaged 6,500 a year.
