Get a pizza of the action as we review Teatro Hall at Filmworks in Ealing Broadway

As Ealing’s newest eatery and bar Teatro Hall celebrates its first six months in October, Ealing Eater decided to pay a visit and experience Pizza Monday.

When it comes to pizza, all we want is good pizza, and that’s exactly what Teatro Hall in Ealing Broadway delivers – if you like gin and pizza this is the place to go.

Located on the site of what would have been the foyer of the former Ealing Forum Theatre (which originally opened in 1934), opposite Ealing Town Hall, Teatro Hall really makes an impact on the Broadway with its imposing frontage and its pleasingly vintage interior. The inside, with its curtain-covered booths and its velvet seating and chandeliers, pays homage to a bygone era – modern yet retro, you are transported back in time the second you step through the door. It feels sophisticated yet caters for a plethora of clientele. You can eat and drink by the bar and have cocktails made in front of you, or sit in one of the more private booth areas or high tables.

First impressions count, and Teatro Hall knows it – it doesn’t disappoint from the minute you walk in. We were here for pizza, and the menu has a good selection of options, from vegan to vegetarian and carnivore, although surprisingly nothing involving fish.

We decided to take advantage of the half-price Monday pizza, which reduces a Margarita pizza from £11 down to £5.50, and a house special Rock Star Margarita – which came with stracciatella, roast tomatoes, rocket and salsa verde – was reduced from £14 to a very appealing £7.

In order to do this, you need to get a free Teatro Hall members member keyring, which when presented, gets the discount.

Both pizzas were light, crisp, and you could tell the ingredients were ultra-fresh and of high quality. The mozzarella and tomato sauce that makes up the base of a great pizza were both spot on, and wouldn’t be out of place at some of the finest pizzerias in Italy. Attention to detail is the name of the game, and Teatro Hall doesn’t skimp on this, from its ultra-large pizzas which could easily feed two (or one very hungry person) through to the pizza cutter that comes on the plate with every pizza. It’s nice that Teatro Hall serves every pizza in this way, without having to ask for a cutter yourself.

For dessert Teatro Hall offers Bomboloni, Italian-style doughnuts filled with jam and Nutella – alas on this occasion we were too full to indulge in these amazing-looking treats.

When it comes to drinks, like its pizzas, Teatro Hall is in a league of its own. Every type of drink is available in every variation you want, but more importantly they distil their own gin on site. Part of the frontage is dedicated to Mary, their 150 litre copper tank that produces the drink.

While there are plenty of cocktails to be sampled, we decided to try the Teatro Hall gin in one of these, for £11 – which consisted of Teatro Hall Yuzu gin, tonic, mandarin orange rind, rosemary and an olive. There is no skimping on ingredients, all measures are doubles, and served in a large glass – and the gin itself is delicious, with a light fruity taste that perfectly complemented its accompaniments, not to mention the pizza.

For gin lovers, you could spend hours there, with specials including a sampler ‘gin flight’ of five of their gins for £25 – or you can even book in to create your own gin at £80 per person, or attend a cocktail masterclass for £50 per person.

Teatro Hall is a much welcome addition to Ealing’s dining experiences – and offers something unique that you won’t get elsewhere in any of the seven towns.
