Tonight, Sunday, 18 September 2022, on the eve of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, Ealing Council will join with others across the nation and take part in the National Moment of Reflection at 8pm.
During this time and on the steps of Ealing Town Hall, the council will hold a one minute silence which will be attended by Councillor Mohinder Midha, Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Labour and Ealing Council, Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of the Opposition and Councillor Julian Gallant, leader of the Conservatives. Other dignitaries and civic leaders will also join residents from Ealing outside the Town Hall.
In a statement, Councillor Mason said: “There will be a National Moment of Reflection on Sunday at 8pm, which will be an opportunity to come together with family, friends and neighbours to reflect upon Queen Elizabeth’s extraordinary life and legacy. The council will mark this moment on the steps of Ealing Town Hall, where the mayor, myself, leaders of the opposition parties, other civic leaders and anyone else who wishes to attend will stand in silence at 8pm on Sunday evening.”
Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of the Opposition told EALING.NEWS: “I will be attending the one minutes’ silence at Ealing Town Hall this Sunday to reflect on the long reign of Queen Elizabeth II. She was someone who had great leadership, stability and also showed great compassion when it was needed. I believe that Queen Elizabeth will be missed greatly.”
Councillor Julian Gallant, leader of the Conservatives told EALING.NEWS: “I hope as many people who can will join the Council’s one minute silence on Sunday, before Monday’s funeral rites for Queen Elizabeth II. It’s a rare thing to see politicians from all parties united in love and respect for one person. This event will emphasise that our differences of opinion and ideology move on a solid plinth of national unity.”
