Ealing Council has approved plans by property developer Tide Construction to demolish the Castle pub in North Acton which closed in 2020 and replace it with a new pub and a co-living housing development of up to 32 storeys.
At a planning meeting last night (21 September 2022), 10 councillors voted to approve it while two were against and one abstained from voting.
Lib Dem Councillor Jon Ball was one of the two who voted against it and tweeted details of the vote and explained to a question what co-living housing is: “A cynic would say fancier and more expensive bedsits. They’re blocks of bedrooms with shared cooking, etc, facilities rather like student accomodation but not restricted to students.”
A number of people also raised their concerns and the impact it has on the area which lacks local health services.
