Ealing’s University of West London (UWL) alumna Anthonia Edwards, known affectionately as ‘the Singing Nurse’ has won The Voice UK 2022.
During the final, Anthonia who studied at UWL’s College of Nursing Midwifery and Healthcare stunned the audience watching at home and on TV with her rendition of Justin Bieber’s Anyone.
During the TV competition Anthonia was coached by music legend Sir Tom Jones. Each and every week, she impressed viewers with her stunning performances of songs including Kesha’s Praying and Katy Perry’s Unconditionally.
On hearing the news of her win, UWL tweeted: “Anthonia wowed the judges and we couldn’t be prouder – an incredible achievement. ”
In an interview with UWL prior to her win, Anthonia answered a number of questions on what it has been like for her.
What’s been the biggest thing you’ve learned on the journey in The Voice?
I’ve learned that I am way more capable than I gave myself credit for. And life is what you make it like I’m a nurse. I’ve just graduated and I’m in the final four of The Voice so yeah, anything’s possible.
What message would you give to other students?
I would say, be smart, follow your passions. And also, you know, be forward thinking like think about your future, how you can invest in it. So I think that’s why I’m a nurse and a singer because it can go either way.
