In a three hour long full Council meeting last night (1 November 2022), Liberal Democrat Ealing Common Councillor Jon Ball said that Ealing Council is wasting residents time and money over the future of Ealing Town Hall by not listening to them.
He highlighted that a part of the Town Hall, Victoria Hall has seen residents have to take legal action to protect it and the council is needlessly fighting local people who want to protect a community asset.
Councillor Ball said the council is spending “hundreds of thousands of pounds” of residents money on legal costs and allowing the Town Hall to suffer and also losing revenue from being able to put on weddings an community events.
Councillor Ball said: “The saga of the Mastcraft scheme continues to drag on, with the Labour administration committed to a hotel scheme for the Town Hall that relies on passing the Victoria Hall to the hotel company.”
He added: “Liberal Democrats say that the problem with that is that the Victoria Hall is not the Council’s to dispose of. Labour is currently wasting hundreds of thousands of pounds of Ealing council taxpayers money to fight local residents in court over this issue. And when the administration loses – as seems increasingly inevitable.”
