An Ealing Hospital doctor originally from India has won an international award celebrating the achievements of Indian students who studied in the UK.

Dr Harmandeep Singh came to the UK as a 24-year-old postgraduate student in 2009 and studied at Buckingham University.

Since then and over the past 14 years, Dr Singh has established himself as a renowned cardiologist at Ealing Hospital, part of London North West University Healthcare.

The India-UK Awards saw more than 500 people attend the ceremony in the West End and which also marked the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence and 75 former students and alumni were recognised in fields as diverse as the Arts, Law, Science & Research Education, Sport and Politics.

During the pandemic Dr Singh was one of the leading people at Ealing Hospital. More recently he has been instrumental in overseeing the introduction of various ‘virtual wards’ where patients can be treated at home via a video link with a doctor or nurse.

Dr Singh, who was was one of the winners in the Education, Science and Innovation category, said: “It was a lovely surprise as there were more than 1,000 entries. It is nice to get the recognition and hopefully inspire the next generation of Indian students to work hard and aim high.”
