As part of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2023, pioneering women’s organisation, Southall Black Sisters will be hosting Ealing Council leaders at its headquarters in Southall.
Ealing Council leader Councillor Peter Mason and Cabinet Member for A Fairer Start Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal, will be meeting with and listening to service users talking about current issues in violence against women and girls, faith and how local authorities can support survivors of violence.
Southall Black Sisters, which marks 44 years since it was founded in 1979, was established to meet the needs of Asian and African-Caribbean women. Over the years, it has offered support in a number of areas including legal help, advice to strikers through to helping women escape violence.
Councillor Mason and Councillor Nagpal will be meeting with and listening to service users talking about current issues in violence against women and girls and faith.
Selma Taha, Executive Director of Southall Black Sisters said: “At a time of greater escalation of hostile environment policies that disproportionately affect migrant victim-survivors of gender-based violence, Southall Black Sisters welcomes this opportunity for greater collaboration between local authorities and by and for services supporting survivors of gender-based violence.”
