More blockbusters and art house films coming to Acton’s ActOne cinema along with Eurovision

Acton’s independent community cinema, ActOne has had a great start to 2023. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, the new second screen went live at the end of January and has allowed even more blockbusters and art house films to be shown.

Coming up over the next few weeks and months will be special screenings of the Coronation of King Charles III as well as Eurovision.

Amanda Mason, Acton Arts Project and ActOne Cinema director highlights some of the recent updates and achievements to the W3 cultural landmark.

“At ActOne Cinema it’s been a very busy start to 2023. With particular thanks to the Acton BID, and the whole community who supported the project – the cinema’s second screen became operational at the end of January. The Name a Seat Campaign contributed to the funds and the seat plaques are now on display in screen two. ActOne thanks everyone who purchased a plaque, and if you’re interested in sponsoring a seat it’s not too late – please get in touch for more information at info@actonecinema.co.uk

“The second screen has opened up the programme for the cinema and the choice of films has increased. ActOne is particularly pleased to be able to launch the first season of National Theatre Live performances, which continue with Best of Enemies on 18th May. Other upcoming highlights include a screening of’ Coup 53 plus live Q&A with director Taghi Amirani and three-time Oscar winner Walter Murch, a screening of the Coronation, and a ticketed screening of Eurovision 2023.

“A new contract with Exhibition on Screen will be bringing the Vermeer exhibition from Amsterdam to Acton followed by the Tokyo Stories exhibition from the Ashmolean in Oxford. Information on the programme and all the special events that are coming up can be found on our new-look website at www.actonecinema.co.uk

“The ActOne cafe is open from 12pm-9pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday; and from 11am-9pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays. With free Wi-fi, great coffee from Climpson & Sons, and a new selection of snacks and pastries, the team hopes the lounge and cafe will become a destination for you, even if you’re not seeing a movie.”
