Ealing Broadway is to hold its second Clothes Swap Shop of the year this Saturday (20 May 2023) at its Town Centre.
The Clothes Swap Shop marks the latest collaboration between the shopping centre and recycle partner, Love Not Landfill, following an initial partnership in 2018.
After donating their clothes, visitors will be given a maximum of five tokens to spend on other items within the Swap Shop to update their wardrobes in a sustainable way.
When previously held in February, the event saw around 1,000 items donated including dresses, jumpers, jackets and topics and more than 600 of these items were swapped.
Local MP for Ealing Central & Acton, Dr Rupa Huq who attended the last Clothes Swap Shop said: “It’s my absolute pleasure to support such a great initiative which supports the circular economy and encourages shoppers to refresh their wardrobe sustainably. It was fantastic to see so many locals making the most of the previous event, and I even managed to take home some pre-loved items which are now staples in my own wardrobe. I’m looking forward to seeing plenty more friendly faces supporting the event on Saturday.”
The event will be taking place during the following hours:
10.00am – 12.00pm: Drop off clothes and receive tokens
12.00pm – 1.00pm: Swap Shop organisers prepare clothing rails full of the donated items
1.00pm – 4.00pm: Visitors can browse the items and cash in their tokens
Ealing Repair Cafe will also be at the shopping centre to teach people how to repair and upcycle clothing.
Andrew Rollings, centre director at Ealing Broadway said: “We were over the moon with the results from our last Clothes Swap Shop, from customers requesting to volunteer at future events, to our retailers donating extra rails and hangers when we were inundated with clothing. Community and sustainability are key priorities for us at Ealing Broadway, and it’s great to see that our local community feels the same way.”
Mr Rollings added: “We’re really excited to see how the upcoming event will compare, and we look forward to seeing the range of pre-loved items donated by Ealing locals.”
