Ealing Hospital’s resident peregrines Dusty and Freddy are proud parents again.
New webcam images show two of the four eggs hatched in late spring with the surviving babies being fed on a diet of pigeons and parakeets until they are big enough to fly themselves.
Ealing Wildlife Group (EWG) are monitoring their progress and recently got access to the roof to put ID rings on their legs so the raptors can be recognised when they are old enough to fly the nest and start their own families.
EWG’s Facebook group has over 5,700 people who report sightings of wildlife in the borough including barn owls, hobby falcons, several types of bat and the rare great crested newt championed by former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone.
Sean McCormark, chair of Ealing Wildlife Group said: “It is fantastic to see Dusty and Freddy have succeeded in raising chicks again since I originally installed the nest box in 2021. You can watch them on our live webcam now so a huge thanks to the hospital who welcomed the project, the council for funding the webcam and our licensed bird ringer so we can keep track of the peregrines’ journey as they get older and fly the nest.”
