Ealing residents from low income households can get sim card offering free calls and data

Residents in Ealing who are over 18 and from a low income household are being offered a sim card for a mobile phone that offers free calls and texts as well as data.

The sims, provided by the Good Things Foundation can be collected at one of Ealing Council’s four community hubs and are for people who do not have olnine access or are having difficulty with paying for mobile data.

The mobile networks who are offering the service are O2, Vodafone and 3.

Ealing Council says it has a limited number of sims which it gets monthly on a first come, first served basis and are issued at the community hubs located at:

  • Acton Library, Everyone Active, Acton Centre, W3 6NE. Open Mondays and Wednesdays, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm
  • Ealing Central Library, Ealing Broadway Shopping centre, W5 5JY. Open Monday to Friday, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm
  • Northolt Library, Church Road, UB5 5AS. Open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm
  • Southall Library, The Dominion Centre, UB2 4BQ. Open Monday to Friday, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm

To qualify for the scheme, residents must be 18 years or older and from a from a low-income household as well as being able to confirm that one of the following statement also applies to them:

  • You have no access or insufficient access to the internet at home.
  • You have no access or insufficient access to the internet when away from home.
  • You cannot afford your existing monthly contract or top up.

Councillor Steve Donnelly, cabinet member for inclusive economy said: “This is a valuable free offer for individuals and households who find themselves struggling to pay for data and consequently are unable to things many of us now take for granted, including school work, working from home, ordering home grocery deliveries.”
