On December 7 2023, King Charles III came to Ealing Broadway shopping centre and it was a dream come true for Perivale-based IMPACT Theatre to get an opportunity to perform in front of His Royal Highness.
The arts organisation, which offers opportunities for learning-disabled performers, gave their all in front of The King when they performed their signed dances using Makaton sign language.
Performer Corinne Moore-Hollingsworth said: “I was very nervous before, but I really enjoyed doing the performance for The King.”
Paul Goodger, who was himself recovering from an injury at the time recalled the meeting. He said: “I was really honoured to perform for King Charles. He asked me about my leg and was very interested.”
IMPACT dancer added: “The King was really kind. He came and shook our hands. He told me he really enjoyed our signed dance.”
Another member who had an opporunity to meet King Charles III was Lee Edwards. He said: “I shook Charles’s hand. It made me feel so excited
and happy.”
IMPACT artistic director Kim Mughan added: “The artists and performers at IMPACT are very proud to have received the Queen’s Award in 2018. The opportunity to meet and dance for King Charles was simply wonderful and the performers have not stopped talking about it.”
