November 2024 screening and community updates from ActOne cinema in Acton

Showing from 1 November at ActOne in Acton is this year’s Cannes Festival Palme d’Or winner, the electrifying tragicomedy Anora; a painful drama about the Magdalene laundries led by Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, Small Things Like These; Pedro Almodóvar’s first English-language feature, an absorbent and moving The Room Next Door with sensational Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore.

Our strand of family-friendly Halloween films ends on 3 November. Enjoy £6 tickets for Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Casper and Coco.

From 8 November ActOne will show the London Film Festival’s opening film, Steve McQueen’s rousing historical war drama Blitz, led by outstanding Saoirse Ronan; a much-anticipated adventure of the world’s most favourite bear, Paddington in Peru. Joining our programme from 15 November will be the action-adventure Gladiator II, the dramatisation of a true story behind the first IVF baby, Joy, and a week later the fantasy musical Wicked.

From 3 November, Shiori Itō’s self-documented journey to seek justice, a quest that becomes a landmark case in Japan, Black Box Diaries.

A one-off screening of the previously sold-out documentary Harder Than The Rock: The Cimarons Story shows on 4 November at 8:15 pm.

6 November at 6 pm, Exhibition On Screen: Van Gogh: Poets & Lovers. 200 years after its opening and a century after acquiring its first Van Gogh work, the National Gallery, London is hosting the UK’s biggest ever Van Gogh exhibition. Encore will be shown on 10 November at 3:20 pm.

Monthly Board Games Night is on Wednesday, 6 November from 6 pm. All enthusiasts and levels are welcome, free of charge.

On 8 November at 6 pm, we are delighted to host a preview of an award-winning documentary Mediha, a revelatory portrait of a 15-year-old Yazidi girl who escaped from ISIS. The special preview screening ahead of its wider theatrical release in the UK will be followed by a live in-person Q&A with the director Hasan Oswald.

8 November at 7:15 pm offers a brilliant Untitled Comedy, founded and moderated by Ryan Denham: ten stand-up comedians, one prize for the audience member. Entry is free, donations are welcome.

9 and Sunday 10 November celebrate the 70th anniversary of Akira Kurosawa’s epic masterpiece, Seven Samurai.

On Wednesday 13 November at 6 pm, attend the monthly short film open mic night, Sound & Vision. Tickets are only £7 for short films of all genres on a big screen and networking drinks at the lounge afterwards.

15 November at 7:30 pm Twinkles Cabaret is debuting a night of alternative comedy – clowning, skits, sketches, costumes and more.

16 November at 8 pm we welcome back Trent Pieterse Trio for a live Jazz night. Electric guitar, double bass, and drums, great music and a lively atmosphere.

The Ealing Film Festival will present a Homegrown selection of films and an award ceremony on Tuesday, 26 November, at 6:15 pm

28 November we host our popular free Open Mic Night. Sign up from 7:30, performances start at 8 o’clock on a first-come, first-served basis. Acoustic performances, comedy, poetry, magic, spoken word and more.
