October 2024 screening and community updates from ActOne cinema in Acton

ActOne in Acton is celebrating its third birthday this month, and we invite you to enjoy the magic of cinema with us. On Saturday 12th October, all tickets will be only £5 for all films, all day.

Francis Ford Coppola’s epic sci-fi Megalopolis, frenzied and satirical The Substance, smart and surreal In Camera and compelling drama The Goldman Case are all showing now. From Friday 4th October, the much-anticipated follow-up to Joker will show – Joker: Folie à Deux and The Outrun with sensational Saoirse Ronan tickets are on sale now.

The half-term at the end of October will be filled with family-friendly films (titles and times to be confirmed soon). Also, between the 8th of October and the 5th of November, you can leave a lasting legacy and join our Name A Seat initiative – going live on Sunday the 6th.

On 1 October at 11:30 am, our Carers & Babies Club will present the gripping French courtroom drama The Goldman Case.

Hard of Hearing Screening will belong to The Substance, a Cannes Film Festival sensation with a career-best performance from Demi Moore. Closed-captioned film on 2 October at 5:30 pm

Our monthly free Board Games Night is on 2 October from 6 pm. All enthusiasts and all levels are welcome.

3 October at 2:45 pm offers a modified screening of Megalopolis, Coppola’s self-funded passion project. Relaxed screenings are weekly autism and dementia-friendly performances designed primarily for our neurodivergent guests. We accept CEA cards and carers and PAs go free.

On 9 October at 6 pm, attend the monthly short film open mic night, Sound & Vision. Tickets are only £7 for two hours of short films of all genres and networking drinks at the lounge afterwards.

11 October at 7 pm, our Lounge welcomes back Ryan Denham’s Untitled Comedy – an evening of stand-up comedians doing what they love the most, making others laugh. Free entry.

13 October at 2 pm, we are screening an encore of a touching documentary, Eric Ravilious: Drawn to War, followed by a live Q&A with the BAFTA-winning director Margy Kinmonth. Fun fact: Eric Ravilious was born a stone’s throw away from the cinema on Acton’s well-known Churchfield Road.

14 October evening will belong to the reggae band Cimarons. Mark Warmington’s documentary Harder Than The Rock: The Cimarons Story will be followed by a live Q&A with the director and the band. It will be moderated by our patron and film connoisseur Mark Kermode, and you can choose between 6:30 and 7:15 pm screenings.

On 15 October at 7:15 pm, the Royal Ballet broadcast LIVE for one night only offers an Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland performance. Royal Ballet and Opera cinematic season is now on sale with a fabulous choice of season passes – see more performances for less.

19 October at 8 pm we welcome back Trent Pieterse Trio for a live jazz night – great music, a cosy atmosphere, and free entry.

20 October presents a UK premiere of the I Am The River, The River Is Me documentary about The Whanganui River in Aotearoa/New Zealand, the first in the world to be recognised as a living and indivisible being. The film will be followed by a live Q&A with multiple fascinating speakers. Pay what you can tickets.

27 October at 2:30 pm offers the family folk opera Wolf Witch Giant Fairy, following the triumphant Olivier Award-winning run in 2021 (Best Family Production). Take a stroll down an enchanted forest with Red Riding Hood.

31 October we host our popular free Open Mic Night. Sign up from 7:30 pm, performances start at 8 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. Halloween costumes are encouraged!

Our usual weekly staples like Carers & Babies Club Tuesdays, closed-captioned screening Wednesdays, relaxed screening Thursdays and our evolving programme can be seen and tickets booked at ActOneCinema.co.uk
