Poetry in motion and discussion comes to Ealing

A new series of poetry events, Poets Talking, where contemporary poets read and talk about their work and careers starts this month on 11 January 2023.

Organised by Open Ealing in collaboration with University of West London’s English & Creative Writing Programme, the first Poets Talking features prize-winning English poets Katharine Towers and Zaffar Kunial who will share their poems and talk about the roots of creativity, language and what it means to be a poet in England today.

Katharine Towers, who was born in London and now lives in the Peak District, had her first collection of poems The Floating Man published in 2010 and one of the poems from it appearec as a Poem on the Underground. Towers’ work reflects her interest in the natural worlds and a love of music.

Zaffar Kunial was born in Birmingham and lives in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. The son of an English mother and a Kashmiri father, Kunial has used his own identity as the central subject for jis 2018 poetry collection called Us. In 2022, he was one of the winners of the Windham Campbell Prize.

Poets Talking takes place at the Open Ealing Arts Centre which is located by Dickens Yard in Ealing Broadway.
