Ealing residents in their 50s, 60s, 70s + to get free online course and workshops in Southall from Startup School for Seniors to help them become business entrepreneurs

A free eight week online course along with face to face workshop meetings at Southall Manor House to help people in their 50s, 60s, 70s and older learn about setting up a business and becoming entrepreneurs is being offered to residents living in Ealing.

The course provided by Startup School for Seniors is sponsored by the Greater London Authority and Learn Ealing.  According to Startup School for Seniors, the course helps to enable those 50+ to “set up in business post-Covid and to earn extra income as the cost of living crisis bites”.

Startup School for Seniors co-founder Suzanne Noble, 61, said that older people have “many transferable skills that are hugely relevant in the modern workplace” and these skills can applied to creating a successful business start-up.

“Despite calls for more older people in the workplace, many of our applicants have struggled to get an interview, let alone find suitable employment. We want to give older people a platform to regain control by launching their own businesses. When people think of start-ups, they tend to picture high-growth tech businesses launched by 20-somethings wearing Converse.”

Ms Noble added: “Older people should remember that they have many transferable skills that are hugely relevant in the modern workplace.”

As well as more than 25 hours of video lessons, the course provides weekly interaction between participants, Ms Noble and her 57-year-old co-founder Mark Elliott.

The four workshops taking place at Southall Manor House qre:
Customers and your Business Idea: 21 September 2022 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Finding new customers using Social Media and other stuff: 28 September 2022 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Writing a One Page Business plan: 5 October 2022 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Showcasing your business to clients: 12 October 2022 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Startup School for Seniors says of those who previously took part, nearly 40% had made money from their business before they finished the course. They also said, it provided many participants with renewed confidence in their ability. This in turn helped them to get employment while also being able to maintain their new start-up as a side hustle.
