Poundland calls time on West Ealing branch as shutters come down just months after opening

Less than four months after taking over defunct retailer Wilko’s West Ealing store, Poundland itself has decided to call time on the location it only opened last winter.

The value retail giant said it was not able to secure a suitable lease on the location for its decision and added that all staff have been transferred to other local locations including its Ealing Broadway branch.

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, a Poundland spokesperson said: “I’m afraid we were unable to agree a long-term lease in West Ealing that allowed us to keep the store trading which is why it sadly closed last week.”

They added: “It goes without saying that we’re as disappointed as customers and colleagues are.  Nevertheless, we have been able to find roles for all the colleagues at the store at nearby locations including our Ealing Broadway close by.”

The return of Poundland to West Ealing was welcomed by locals who remembered when the retailer was there previously.

At one point it had two branches in the area. One, which closed down a decade ago, was located next to Holland & Barrett and where Lidl is now located. Another branch, which was a 99p store taken over by Poundland, was located next to Iceland and closed in 2017.
