Concern over rise in “smash and grab” theft from cars at Tesco Hoover Building car park

Supermarket shoppers have voiced their concern over the rise of thieves breaking into cars parked at Tesco’s Hoover Building in Perivale while they are buying their weekly shop.

Thieves are said to be going into the art deco building’s car park on cycles and “smash and grab” by gaining access to valuables left inside cars.

Such is the increase in the area that some residents living nearby are thinking of moving away and have spoken out on online local community groups according to MyLondon.

“For the last year solid, Hoover Building has been a target for cars getting broken into. It’s the same people who travel on bike and smash any car windows they can, which they feel will yield a pay day,” said one local man. “The same scumbags are doing it over and over, no one is taking it seriously. Honestly this area is so bad for me now I am looking to get my family out at the first chance I get.”

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “We’re sorry to hear about this. We take security in our car parks very seriously and will always work together with the police to support any criminal investigation and prevention measures.”
