Police appeal for help to identify man following mobile phone thefts

Metropolitan Police are appealing to the public to help identify a man they wish to speak to following a number of mobile phone thefts in the Ealing Common and Acton areas.

On 30 July 2024, police were contacted after a man used a distraction technique to steal a mobile phone on Gunnersbury Lane and then on 14 August 2024, officers were contacted again after a man stole a phone on Uxbridge Road.

According to the police, the man approached the victims asking for donations.

Detective Sergeant Richard Kidd of the Met’s West Area Command said: “I am keen to identify and speak to this man, who, as you can see from the image, has a distinctive mark on his inner left lower leg. We now have two reports of incidents that are almost identical in method and we want to put a stop to the suspect’s activities before any further offences are committed.”

DS Kidd added: “We know all to well that the effects of being a victim of crime can last far longer than the replacement of the items stolen. If you can help us identify this man please do get in touch.”

If you have any information on the man, police are asking members of the public to call 101 or post on X @MetCC quoting 5610/16AUG.

To remain 100 per cent anonymous call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.
