The Deputy Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Charan Sharma, has stepped down for “personal reasons” less than two months in the role.
Councillor Sharma, who represents the Perivale ward, ceased being Deputy Mayor in July 2023 having taken on the role at the end of May 2023 when she was appointed as Deputy to Councillor Hitesh Tailor, Mayor of Ealing.
But despite being appointed, Councillor Sharma was rarely seen in the role and the council has only now confirmed that she stepped down in July 2023.
The council said that previous mayors including Ian Potts, Steve Pound and Councillor Munir Ahmed have been and will be deputising for the Mayor of Ealing while a decision is being taken on a new Deputy Mayor.
A council spokesperson told EALING.NEWS: “Councillor Charan Sharma stepped down from her role as Deputy Mayor of Ealing in July 2023 for personal reasons. No appointment has yet been made to the post, though this is being considered.”
The spokesperson added: “Recent past mayors continue to deputise for the Mayor of Ealing at functions and events as appropriate.”
