Ealing Council invites young people in the borough to design its 2024 Christmas card

Following 2021, 2022 and 2023’s Ealing Council Christmas card being designed by a young artist in the borough, the council has announced this year’s competition is now open.

The winning card, based on the theme Christmas in the Community, will be used across the council by its cabinet members, chief executive and senior council officers to send festive greetings thanking people for their work and contribution to the borough.

The competition is open to anyone who attends a school in the borough and is 18 or younger. There are three categories, six and under, 7-11 and 12-18 years and one overall winner.

In 2023, the overall winner was six-year-old Sherin Shahzad .

Ealing Council leader Councillor Peter Mason said: “Christmas is primarily a time for Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ, however it is also a time for people of all faiths and none to come together to feel festive. Judging the Christmas card competition is always one of the highlights of the year for me. With so many talented young artists in the borough, it’s never an easy task to choose a winner.”

Councillor Mason added: “But seeing the creativity and local pride in the designs is truly rewarding. It brings me great joy to send out cards that reflect the borough’s vibrant community, and I’m sure they will bring smiles to everyone who receives them.”

The Council says “Entrants are encouraged to get creative by drawing, colouring, or painting their design. Whether you want to feature the borough’s beautiful parks, local landmarks, or a scene of family, friends, and pets, there’s plenty of room for your imagination to shine.”

The competition will be judged by Councillor Mason; Councillor Louise Brett, deputy leader and cabinet member for safe and genuinely affordable homes, and Councillor Josh Blacker, cabinet member for a fairer start.

Closing date for the competition is midnight on 3 November 2024 and winners will be announced week commencing 27 November 2024.

To enter, young artists will need to send a photo or a scanned image of their design and indicate the age and category they are entering along with name, age and school.

The artwork needs to be A4 in size and in landscape format and the image emailed to:  vaghelah@ealing.gov.uk
