Ealing decides : Interviews with candidates standing for three Ealing Council ward by-elections

Following the General Election in July in which three Ealing councillors won seats in Parliament, candidates for the wards they represented of South Acton, Northolt Mandeville and Hanger Hill have been announced for the by-elections taking place on 10 October 2024. 

All candidates have been invited for an interview about who they are, what they stand for and why residents should vote for them.

Newly elected Labour MP for Buckingham & Bletchley Callum Anderson was previously a councillor for South Acton, Northolt Mandeville Labour councillor Deirdre Costigan won Ealing Southall while Conservative Gregory Stafford who represented the Hanger Hill ward became MP for Farnham & Bordon.

Pedro Da Conceicao, who previously stood as an 18-year-old independent candidate for Ealing Southall in the recent general election is now a Liberal Democrat candidate for Northolt Mandeville.

South Acton Labour candidate Katie Douglas posted on X of her standing: “I am thrilled to officially be on the ballot as Labour’s candidate in South Acton. It’s an incredible honour and I can’t wait to spend even more time talking to people about living in the best borough in London!”

While fellow Labour candidate for Northolt Mandeville, Dominic Moffitt, also posted about his standing: “I’m delighted to have today submitted my nomination papers to stand as the @UKLabour candidate in the Northolt Mandeville by-election on the 10th of October.”

Natalia Kubica, who previously stood as a Green Party candidate in Ealing North for the general election is standing to represent the Greens in Northolt Mandeville.  Another Green Party general election candidate, Kate Crossland is standing to become a councillor for Hanger Hill.

Jonathan Oxley for Liberal Democrats in Hanger Hill said of his focus for the ward: “If elected I will look to improve the lighting in the Mock Tudors, reduce begging on the gyratory and tackle drug dealing in Hanger Hill by working with the local police.”

The number of voters currently registered in each of the three wards are:

Hanger Hill : 11,222
Northolt Mandeville Electorate : 11,838
South Acton : 11,994

Anyone living in those wards who is not currently registered to vote can do so by visiting: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

The deadline for applying for a postal vote, or to change or cancel an existing postal or proxy vote was 5pm 25 September 2024.
The deadline for applying for a new proxy vote, which allows a registered to nominate a registered person to cast a vote on their behalf is 5pm on Wednesday 2 October 2024.
