Ealing introduces Community Champions to help communities with health and wellbeing

Ealing Council has launched Community Champions, a new programme which it says will provide help to communities across Ealing by teaming up local volunteers over the age of 18 with people in need of help to be directed to relevant support and health services that are available across Ealing.

The initiative follows Ealing Together, where during Covid 19 pandemic, local groups, charities, residents and businesses collaborated together to help people.

Councillor Josh Blacker, cabinet member for healthy lives said: “During this time, it showed that a lot of you know your communities much better than the council or health partners and know how to work with them to get them the best results.”

Councillor Blacker added: “We need Champions that understand the specific needs in their community and can act as a link between the council and their community to support these needs. Together we can do all we can to make sure that everyone in Ealing has the information they need to stay safe and healthy.”

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of the Opposition on Ealing Council told EALING.NEWS that they welcome the programme but it has taken too long coming: “During and since Covid the Council built and made use of volunteers effectively to help reduce some of the negatives that Covid brought. But over the past year people have wanted to help others in society but the Council have allowed time to slip by meaning much opportunities have been wasted.”

All Community Champions will get training from the Council to help them share information and knowledge with others in their communities.

More information on Community Champions as well as how to sign up to it as a volunteer can be found here.
