Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm has issued his first Christmas and New Year message as Ealing Leader of the Opposition to residents of Ealing after his party became the main opposition following May’s local election.
Protection for Warren Farm, increase of allowance for Leader of Ealing Council and campaigning to bring back ward forums are among the issues Councillor Malcolm highlighted on a local level that his party will continue to challenge the ruling Labour-run Ealing Council about.
Councillor Gary Malcolm said: “Liberal Democrats can see the effect of the cost of living crisis on many residents across Ealing – the higher food bills, fuel bill increases, rents and mortgages, alongside the struggling NHS and turmoil in 10 Downing Street. Liberal Democrats have been working with foodbanks and Ealing Council to try to ensure that as much money, food and help can be given to those who are most in need.”
Councillor Gary Malcolm added: “Liberal Democrats wish all residents a happy festive period. Next year we want to see Ealing Council properly listening to residents and to bring back ward forums so that residents’ voices can be heard again. We want to see our open spaces like Warren Farm protected from development. Also, we want to remind people that as many go hungry, the Leader of Labour-run Ealing Council took a 71% pay increase only a few months ago.”
