Illegally parked cars get removed by Ealing Council after months of complaints

After months and possibly years, residents and business owners in Park Avenue in Hanger Hill and Coronation Road in East Acton, can now find more places to park as well as access their premises after Ealing Council towed away vehicles that had been left there.

In a statement, Ealing Liberal Democrats, welcomed the move by Labour-run Ealing Council to remove 21 vehicles but said it has taken a long time for the council to deal with the issue.

One end of Park Avenue, Ealing which is on the edge of the Industrial Estate with a mix of both residents and businesses has become a parking lot of cars, double parked on double yellow lines including many with no number plates or engines for many years,” they said.

The cars were towed away between 11pm on 22 November 2022 and 4am on 23 November 2022.

Councillor Deirdre Costigan, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “We will endeavour to remove dangerous and unsightly vehicles left illegally – whether dumped completely or left anti-socially and in contravention of the rules. This night-time operation by our officers in partnership with the police was in direct response to complaints about local people’s everyday lives being made unnecessarily difficult.”

Liberal Democrat Councillor Athena Zissimos said: You could not freely walk on the footpath. Traffic including emergency vehicles could not get through, businesses access their own drives, everybody is boxed in by these illegally parked cars. Some businesses cannot get deliveries, nor can they easily get their manufactured goods out.”

Councillor Zissimos added: “After months of pressure from the Liberal Democrat Councillors it is great that the Council did a great job. I am very happy that the Council and the police worked together. The Council now will need to be continually vigilant to stop this happening again.
