Proclamation of King Charles III has been held on the steps outside Ealing Town Hall

Residents across Ealing along with local councillors , members of Parliament  and other dignitaries gathered outside Ealing Town Hall earlier today (11 September 2022) to witness the Proclamation of Kings Charles III following the death earlier this week (8 September) of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Ealing Council special ceremony was introduced by Representative Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki with the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Mohinder Midha reading out the Proclamation and also leading the cheers of Hip Hip Hooray to King Charles III.

All three members of Parliament were in attendance: Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, Virendra Sharma, MP for Ealing, Southall and James Murray, MP for Ealing North.

Former Ealing Mayor and Ealing North MP, Stephen Pound also attended.

The Proclamation as read out by the Mayor of Ealing

“Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to call to His Mercy our late Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth the Second of Blessed and Glorious Memory, by whose Decease the Crown of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is solely and rightfully come to The Prince Charles Philip Arthur George: We, therefore, the Lords Spiritual and Temporal of this Realm and Members of the House of Commons, together with other members of Her late Majesty’s Privy Council and representatives of the Realms and Territories, Aldermen and Citizens of London, and others, do now hereby with one voice and Consent of Tongue and Heart publish and proclaim that The Prince Charles Philip Arthur George is now, by the Death of our late Sovereign of Happy Memory, become our only lawful and rightful Liege Lord Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories, King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to whom we do acknowledge all Faith and Obedience with humble Affection; beseeching God by whom Kings and Queens do reign to bless His Majesty with long and happy Years to reign over us.

Given at St. James’s Palace on the tenth day of September in the year of Our Lord two thousand and twenty-two.

Members of the public from all of Ealing’s towns and of all ages joined in the official ceremony.

Mother of three, Rachel from Northolt told EALING.NEWS: “I came here with my children to pay our respects.  King Charles will be a marvellous King.”

Jason, a student from Hanwell said this is historic times: “I’m not a Royalist as such, but this is an important milestone in the history of our country and I wanted to be here to be part of this and see what it’s all about.”
