Residents wanted by Ealing Council to join scrutiny panels to examine its work

Ealing Council is inviting residents across the borough to take part in its scrutiny panels which cover important issues and matters from social care through to housing.

The scrutiny panels meet on a regular basis and give Ealing residents an opportunity to examine and question what is being said and done in the borough.

This year sees four new panels, Tackling the Cost of Living Crisis, Recovery from the Pandemic, Regrow, Rewild and Recycle and Genuinely Affordable Homes joining two existing ones Overview and scrutiny committee and Health and adult social services.

According to the council, they are looking for residents across all communities and all Ealing towns to be a part of the panels.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of the Opposition on Ealing Council told EALING.NEWS: “Liberal Democrats think that the overall scrutiny process can work if the aim and objectives are sharply focused on an issue that needs solving.”

Councillor Malcolm added: “Often though Ealing Council has not made a full effort to investigate its own failings probably because most of the councillors on the scrutiny committees do not want to vote against their own party. Liberal Democrats want to see more expertise come in from businesses and residents who are experts in particular areas but we all need to know that failings will be investigated and their interest will be valued.”

To express interest contact the council’s Scrutiny Unit by email:  scrutiny@ealing.gov.uk or call 020 8825 7497.
