A ground breaking ceremony to herald the start of construction for Northolt High School’s new building has been held.
The Mayor of Ealing Councillor Yvonne Johnson joined with students, staff and governors of the school along with builders Kier Construction to mark the event last week (18 July 2024).
The new building will be used by 900 pupils in years 7 to 11 and 200 in the Sixth form and includes 8400m² of teaching and study areas, dining and assembly halls, a 30-place specialist resource provision to support students with special needs and a cinema.
A plaque from Kier Construction to commemorate the groundbreaking event was given to the school by Councillor Johnson. She said: “It is a pleasure to hand over this plaque to mark this special day after years in the planning.”
Last week, parents and students going to Northolt High School were also told that from 1 September 2025, its name will change to Islip Manor High School following an “engagement process” with school stakeholders.
Headteacher Marion Budd said: “The ceremony is a key milestone following the completion of the demolition of our old building, which serves as the foundation for our new one, ensuring that students, families and staff, both past and new, remain a part of the school’s ongoing journey.”
Mike Hulme, chair of governors commented: “Our young people deserve a state-of-the-art school. I am fascinated and thrilled by this process and look forward to the end result.”
