Call out for more people to become school governors in Ealing

Residents from all backgrounds and communities across Ealing are being invited to become a school governor in the borough.

Ealing Council is hosting an event on 7 March 2024 where people can meet representatives from schools in Ealing who are looking for governors, learn about training from Ealing Council to support governors as well as ask questions to existing governors.

Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for a fairer start said: “You learn so many skills when you become a school governor and the skills you bring to a school are invaluable. You do need to have a commitment to ensuring excellent outcomes for local children and a willingness to learn and contribute.”

Governors commitment is around six to 10 days a year and the council says that under Section 50 of the Employment Rights Act 1996, employees who are school governors must be given reasonable time off to carry out their duties by their employers.

Councillor Nagpal added: “Become a school governor and play an active role in in improving outcomes for young people across the borough. You’ll get fantastic support and training that will prepare you so you can carry out the core functions, and it provides great networking opportunities.”
