Children across London and in Ealing are finding out today which primary schools they will be attending from September as national primary day offers are released.
In Ealing, 88.5% secured their first preference school which matches the average of 88.5% of all London boroughs. Ealing performs better than neighbouring boroughs Brent (87.7), Hammersmith & Fulham (82.2%), Harrow (87.7%) and Hounslow (85.4) but is down compared to neighbouring borough Hillingdon (95%).
An Ealing Council spokesperson told EALING.NEWS: “All on time applications were offered a place. 98.2% (3604 children) were offered a place at a preference school and any child that did not get a place at one of their preference schools (they can select up to 6 schools), which is 1.8% (65 children) were allocated a place at a school with a vacancy at a reasonable distance.”
Cllr Ian Edwards, London Councils executive member for children and young people said of the overall London numbers: “It is vital that all children in London have access to a high-quality education, and primary education is one of the most important first steps on this ladder. We want to ensure the best possible future for children applying to mainstream schools and for pupils with special education needs and disabilities (SEND).”
He added: “It is positive that once again the overwhelming majority of children have an offer from one of their preferred schools. Boroughs have worked diligently with schools to ensure there are the places needed to meet demand across the capital. London boroughs are continuing to work with schools experiencing decreasing demand for school places to achieve good outcomes for young Londoners. London still has the best performing schools in the country and it is essential we protect them in this difficult climate.”
