University of West London recognised for its eco credentials

The University of West London (UWL) has been recognised for its environmental efforts by being given a 1st class award by the People & Planet student campaigning network in their University League 2022/2023 for environmental efforts including carbon reduction and food sustainability.

Last year, UWL was rated 57th and this year it has moved up to 17th and is in the top 20 of all universities.

in 2021 the University completed a £5million government-funded project which included one of the world’s largest combined installations of ground source heat pumps and solar photovoltaic thermal panels. The large scale project to decarbonise the campus is part of the University’s plans to become net zero carbon by 2030.

Claire Willitts, Director of Property Services at UWL said: “We’re delighted to be recognized in this way for our work to embed a culture of sustainability across the University and become a net-zero carbon campus by 2030. The University aims to become a leader in environmental and sustainability management by preventing pollution, complying with environmental legislation, and striving to improve our sustainability performance.”
