Beekeeping pensioner turns to public to help after vandals destroy his Greenford hives

A disabled 82-year-old beekeeping pensioner is appealing to the public to help him raise £5,000 so that his beekeeping hobby can continue after vandals destroyed his hives in Greenford last summer.

In a Go Fund Me page, Brian Mitchison, who is a member of Ealing and District Beekeepers Association (EDBKA) said: “Over the last 10 years, I have collected and looked after bees in my local nature reserve. Unfortunately, all my hives were damaged by mindless people who got in through a broken fence. I haven’t the funds to replace the bees or the damaged hives. Hopefully, I can get more bees back in the nature reserve to help with pollination in the local area.”

Brian, who has kept bees for many years at Litton Nature Reserve, has also been called on to help Ealing residents with rehousing bees. In 2016, he and a colleague from Ealing Beekeepers rescued homeless bees from West Ealing.

As of lunchtime on 17 April 2023, Brian’s Go Fund Me page, has raised £3,300.
