Ealing Broadway kebab shop gets criticised by Food Standards Agency

An award winning kebab shop opposite Ealing Broadway station has received the lowest possible rating by the Food Standards Agency after an inspection in September found mouse and rat droppings in the premises as well as no soap in a downstairs wash basin.

Ali’s Berlin Doner, which opened in August 2017, was criticised by the Food Standards Agency for not meeting a number of requirements and as a result scored just 1 out of 5 and rated “Major Improvement Necessary”.

Previously, in 2019, Ali’s Berlin Doner scored 3 out of 5 and was rated “Generally Satisfactory”

The kebab shop had also previously won the 2018 Best Kebab Restaurant in North and West London in the British Kebab Awards.

Recent reviews on TripAdvisor by kebab lovers gave the shop 5 stars for its food.

The inspectors said in their report: “Mice droppings were found on the floor of the WC. Mice and rat droppings found on the floor as shown under the sink. At the time of inspection there was no soap or hand drying facilities at the downstairs wash basin, you must ensure soap and handwash is available at all times.”

The report also highlighted the need to follow processes for cleaning surfaces. “You must clean your surfaces using a two-stage process which includes firstly wiping down with hot soapy water and then spraying with an appropriate sanitiser.”

Other issues the inspectors found were cracked and broken tiles and celiing damage.  They also found a plug socket near to a vegetable chopper was cracked.

According to MyLondon, the owner of Ali’s Berlin Doner said all issues found by the inspectors have been fixed and they are due another inspection soon. “We have a contract with Rentokil that does regular checks since we have opened the shop. The poor rating is because of the tiles and other things, nothing to do with hygiene.”
