Staff working at hospitals which are part of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) including Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital have been encouraging people this week to sign up and become organ donors.
The donation team from LNWH took part in the annual Organ Donation Week which runs from 18 September 2023 to 24 September 2023.
According to the NHS, demand always outstrips supply with more than 7,000 people currently awaiting transplants for organs including the heart, liver, lungs and pancreas across the UK. The NHS also revealed that one organ donor has the potential to save eight lives.
LNWH donation team also went out to set the record straight on myths surrounding donation including you don’t need to be in perfect health to donate, recipients not having to be the same age as donors and the identity of who gives and receives organs remains confidential.
