Ealing Samaritans helping commuters at Ealing Broadway station on Blue Monday with Brew Monday

Volunteers from the Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow branch of Samaritans will once again be out in force this morning (15 January 2022) with tea bags at Ealing Broadway station to help commuters and travellers cope with Blue Monday.

The third Monday in January, Blue Monday has been described by some as “the most depressing day of the year” and the Samaritans are marking today as “Brew Monday” which they also did last year.

With cold dark mornings, festive season over and credit card and other bills coming through, it can get very sad for people this time of the year and the Samaritans want to do something about it.

Heena Johnson, director of Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow Samaritans said last year: “Let’s bin the blues! We’re making this ‘Brew Monday’ to encourage friends and family to stay connected by having a cuppa and a catch-up.”

The volunteer team will give out free teabags and leaflets about their service to the local community.

Heena added: “People can feel low at any point in the day, week or year and we want them to know that they are never alone. Check in with people who you care about for a cuppa and a chat as talking really can save lives. Our volunteers are available around the clock to listen to anyone who needs support this Brew Monday and every other day of the month and year, 24/7.”
