To mark Blue Monday yesterday (16 January 2023), members of Ealing Young Champions from the Young Ealing Foundation hosted a free event for those aged 12-25 to help them with their mental health and dealing with one of the most challenging times of the year.
Blue Monday has been described by some as “the most depressing day of the year” and the Ealing Young Champions put on an event to turn Blue Monday into a “fun-filled positive wellbeing day” for their peers in Ealing.
The Get Connected event, which saw more than 50 young people attend from across the borough, took place at the Ealing Project, and featured a number of activities and booths throughout the evening including art, baking and writing. Many of these activities where led by the Ealing Young Champions to show to their peers how they manage their own well being.
A music activity led by the mental health charity Mind also took place.
As well as activities going on, local pizza company Santa Maria in Bond Street donated 25 free pizzas to the event for the young people to enjoy.
Following the activities, a raffle took place where one lucky winner took home the top prize of AirPods.
For the rest of the night, the film Free Guy was shown in one of the screens at the Ealing Project.
The event was a major success for the Ealing Young Champions who put it all together and they hope to continue the work they have been doing in the community.
Ealing Young Champions also revealed they are looking for more young people aged 14-19 to join them. They are looking for people who want to make a positive difference and express their opinions. For more information, contact Hollie via email: hollie@youngealingfoundation.org.uk
