Musicians pump up the volume at Ealing Hospital to help raise awareness about dementia

Two musicians from The Spitz musical collective charity have raised the roof at Ealing Hospital as part of Dementia Action Week by visiting wards and entertaining patients and staff.

Alex Lukjaniec, matron for older people and dementia services said of having The Spitz perform: “It’s lovely to see people’s faces light up when the musicians come on the wards and start playing. People are just drawn to the music and everyone had a good dance. It really lifted everyone’s spirits.”

The collective, who regularly perform at residential homes, hospices and hospitals and entertained the Ealing Hospital staff and patients with a musical rendition using a guitar double bass.

According to London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) which runs hospitals including Ealing Hospital and Northwick Park, around 25% of all current hospital admissions have dementia in north-west London.
