More than 120 people took part in a special Makaton flash mob at Ealing Broadway shopping centre to raise awareness around speech and language therapy services for children and especially those under 5.
Makaton is a communication tool that uses speech, signs and symbols and helps people communicate with others.
The event last week (27 September 2023) was organised by the Ealing Speech and Language Therapy team as part of a series of events and activities that started on 18 September 2023 and are running until 18 October 2023.
Among those taking part was Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Hitesh Tailor.
Hannah Howell-Day, clinical lead for Early Years Speech and Language Therapy said: “The flash mob was a huge success. We were blown away by the support that we had! Over 120 people from all different communities and groups in Ealing came together to raise awareness of speech, language and communications needs.”
Ms Howell-Day added: “We certainly created a buzz with members of the public asking what we were doing, so we were able to share our programme of activities and the reason behind the flash mob.”
